Purpose & Significance

To exercise democratic constitutional voting franchise in Parliamentary, State Legislative Assembly, and local body elections, and provide state-recognized proof of citizenship and residence.

General Eligibility Criteria

Any Indian citizen who has attained 18 years of age on the qualifying dates (1st January, 1st April, 1st July, or 1st October of the year) and is ordinarily resident in the constituency.

General Documents Required

  • Form 6 (Application for new voter registration) or Form 8 (Correction of entries / shifting of residence)
  • Proof of Age (Birth Certificate, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving Licence, or Class 10 certificate)
  • Proof of Ordinary Residence (Aadhaar Card, Water/Electricity/Gas connection bill, Bank passbook, Passport, or registered rental agreement)
  • One recent passport-sized color photograph

General Application Workflow

Register on the ECI Voter Portal (voters.eci.gov.in) or mobile app using mobile number and OTP.

Complete Form 6 online, selecting Parliamentary and Assembly constituency, personal details, and uploading documents.

An acknowledgment reference number is generated to track status.

The local Booth Level Officer (BLO) performs field verification at the residential address.

The Electoral Registration Officer approves entry into the electoral roll; digital e-EPIC becomes immediately downloadable, and physical PVC voter card is posted via Speed Post.
