Constitutional Definition

The basic human and civil rights guaranteed to all individuals in India under Part III of the Constitution, judicially enforceable against the State.

To promote the ideal of political democracy, protect individual liberty, equality, and dignity, prevent executive authoritarianism, and ensure social justice.

Article 14: Equality before Law

The State shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India.

Article 19: Protection of Six Freedoms

Protects speech, peaceful assembly, association, free movement, residence, and practicing any profession, subject to reasonable restrictions.

Article 21: Protection of Life and Personal Liberty

No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law (expanded to include privacy, clean environment, and dignity).

Article 32: Heart and Soul of the Constitution

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar termed Article 32 the cornerstone of the Constitution, empowering citizens to move the Supreme Court directly for constitutional remedies.
