Purpose & Significance

To avail constitutional reservations in educational admissions, government recruitments, competitive examinations, scholarship awards, and targeted affirmative action welfare schemes.

General Eligibility Criteria

Citizens belonging to castes, tribes, or communities formally notified under the Presidential Orders for SC/ST or Central/State Lists for OBCs.

General Documents Required

Standard documents typically requested by statutory authorities during verification

  • Application form in prescribed format with self-declaration
  • Proof of caste of father / paternal blood relatives (Father's caste certificate, school transfer certificate, or land title mentioning caste)
  • Pre-1950 (for SC/ST) or pre-1993 (for OBC) residence proofs of family in the state where mandated by state rules
  • Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate / income documentation (specifically for OBC reservation candidates)
  • Proof of Identity and Address of the applicant and parents (Aadhaar, Voter ID)
  • School Leaving Certificate (SLC) / Transfer Certificate indicating community

General Application Workflow

Apply online on the respective State e-District portal or submit paper application at the Tehsil office.

Jurisdictional Patwari / Revenue Inspector conducts field inquiry to verify paternal caste heritage and historical residency.

Revenue Inspector forwards report with ancestral lineage verification to the Tehsildar or SDM.

Competent authority approves and issues the Caste Certificate with a unique digital certificate number and verification barcode.

Certificate is archived in state repository and can be stored in the applicant's DigiLocker.
